A look at where the locals stand in the CIAC state tournaments

The CIAC state tournament pairings were released this morning, and there will be plenty a good amount of local participation in this year’s postseason. You can find brackets, rosters, past champions and more listed on CIAC Tournament Central.
You can find information on all of the participating teams at that link. I will be taking a more local look here.

GIRLS SOCCER (first round next Monday at 2 p.m.)
Holy Cross earned the No. 8 seed in Class S and plays host to No. 25 Litchfield of the nearby Berkshire League. The Cross/Litchfield winner plays the winner of No. 9 HMTCA and No. 24 Windsor Locks.
Wolcott is the No. 10 seed in Class M, where it opens play against No. 23 Killingly. The Wolcott/Killingly winner plays the winner of No. 7 Morgan and No. 26 Bethel.
St. Paul is the No. 13 seed in Class S and opens at home against No. 20 Norwich Tech/Holy Family. The St. Paul/NT-HF winner plays No. 4 Coventry, which has a bye.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL (first round next Monday at 6 p.m.)
Bristol Eastern has the highest area seed in volleyball, coming in as the No. 6 seed in Class L. The Lancers have a first round bye during next Monday’s action. Their first match will be next Thursday at home against the winner of No. 11 E.O. Smith and No. 22 Bunnell. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Bristol Central is the No. 23 seed in Class LL and has a tall task ahead of it with a first round match at No. 10 Greenwich. The winner faces No. 7 Brien McMahon of Norwalk, which has a bye.
Kennedy is the No. 21 seed in Class LL and will play at No. 12 West Haven. The winner gets No. 5 Glastonbury, which has a bye.
Kaynor Tech won its last match of the regular season to qualify for the Class M state tournament. They are the No. 24 seed and draw No. 9 Nonnewaug of the BL.
Holy Cross is the No. 29 seed in Class S and will play No. 4 Lyman Memorial in the first round. The winner sees the winner of No. 13 Valley Regional and No. 20 Med-Ed Prep.

BOYS SOCCER (first round next Tuesday at 2 p.m.)
Crosby is the area’s best seed in boys soccer at No. 6 in Class LL. The Bulldogs get a tough match out of the gate when they host No. 27 Conard. Conard plays in the rugged Central Connecticut Conference, which features a bevy of soccer powers. The Crosby/Conard winner gets the winner of No. 11 Darien and No. 22 Ridgefield.
Bristol Central is in as the No. 30 in LL and draws a tough road trip to No. 3 Fairfield Prep. The BC/Prep winner gets the winner of No. 14 Fairfield Ludlowe and No. 19 Greenwich.
Bristol Eastern is the No. 19 seed in Class L and will play No. 14 Avon. The Eastern/Avon winner plays No. 3 University/Prince Tech, which has a bye.
Kaynor Tech is the No. 25 seed in Class M and opens at No. 8 Windham Tech. The two schools didn’t meet during the regular season, despite both being from the Constitution State Conference. The Kaynor/Windham winner faces the winner of No. 9 Northwestern and No. 24 Stonington.
Wolcott is the No. 30 seed in Class M and draws a tough assignment against No. 3 Bacon Academy. The Wolcott/Bacon winner faces the winner of No. 14 Valley Regional and No. 19 Windham.
St. Paul earned a No. 9 seed in Class S and will host No. 24 Aerospace. The St. Paul/Aerospace winner plays the winner of No. 8 Somers and No. 25 Amistad.
Holy Cross is the No. 27 seed in Class S and will travel to No. 6 Canton for its first round match. The Cross/Canton winner plays the winner of No. 11 Griswold and No. 22 Parish Hill.

CIAC Cross Country State Open is today at 2:45 p.m. at Wickham Park in Manchester. Matt Varnum and Hannah Jones of Bristol Central are the local runners taking part in the Open.


Girls swimming and diving qualifiers for state meets will be announced next Tuesday by 5 p.m.
