Bristol Eastern girls finish 11th in Class L swimming and diving

Swimmers from Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central competed in the always tough Class L state championship meet on Wednesday night at Wesleyan University’s Freeman Athletic Center in Middletown.
When it was all said and done, Darien won the team title with 863 points, followed by New Canaan with 712.5. Bristol Eastern finished 11th out of 19 with 138 points while Central was 18th with 47 points.
Eastern’s best finish came in the 200-yard medley relay, where it took seventh place (team of senior Jaime Mitchell, freshman Brianna Ogonowski, junior Georgia Ogonowski and senior Olivia Bart). The best individual finish from the Lancers was courtesy of Bart, who took 13th in the 50 freestyle.
Central took 17th place in the 200 freestyle relay (team of senior Madison Pechulis, senior Olivia Pechulis, sophomore Sydney Pina and sophomore Meghan Curtis).

STATE OPEN NOTES
Bristol Eastern’s 200 medley relay is tied for the second alternate spot going into Saturday’s State Open. 
St. Paul seniors Kim Hylan and Sarah Bowes each qualified for the Open with their solid efforts in the Class S meet. Hylan is seeded seventh in the 200 freestyle and 11th in the 100 freestyle. Bowes is seeded 22nd in the 50 freestyle.
Sacred Heart junior Erin Brown is seeded 11th in the 100 backstroke. 
State Open diving takes place tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at Middletown High School. State Open swimming will begin at noon on Saturday at Yale University’s Kiphuth Exhibition Pool in New Haven.
