Galipo propels Hartford women’s soccer into America East final

University of Hartford women’s soccer senior Elise Galipo picked a great time to score his first goal of the season.
The former Bristol Central standout laced a right-footed shot into the net in the 73rd minute to give the top-seeded Hawks a 1-0 lead over No. 4 Maine in an America East Tournament semifinal match last Sunday. Galipo’s goal was the final margin as Hartford moved on to the final. The Hawks host No. 2 Albany Sunday at 2 p.m. for the America East championship and a NCAA Tournament berth.

Galipo brought the ball toward the box from the left corner of the pitch. She maintained control of the ball, brought it a few feet into the box, then let a shot fly. Galipo’s shot was pure, a beautiful goal into the upper right corner of the net.
At Bristol Central, Galipo was a three-time All-CCC South performer (2009-11).
Hartford is the two-time defending America East regular season champion. The Hawks are in the title game for the third time in four years, but they seek to take the final step and win the title for the first time since 2006 tomorrow.
