Holy Cross girls soccer sees season come to an end against Old Lyme

In a 10-minute span of the second half, Holy Cross girls soccer’s dreams of a Class S state championship went up in smoke against Old Lyme on Monday night.
That’s how long it took the No. 5 Wildcats to score four goals and grab a commanding lead in a 4-0 victory over the No. 8 Crusaders in a semifinal matchup at Middletown High School’s Rosek-Skubel Stadium.
Holy Cross saw its great season come to an end one match short of the final. The Crusaders finish a great season with a record of 14-5-2.
Holy Cross graduates Sarah Innes, Taylor Gilmore, Kylie Rice, Caitlin Gobstein and Catherine Melchionne. Keeper Katherine Flaherty (currently a junior) and Kiley Harnish (sophomore) will be among those back to lead the Crusaders next year.
Old Lyme will play No. 18 Notre-Dame Fairfield on Saturday at a time and place to be determined.
