Sacred Heart holds annual alumni swim meet
Sacred Heart put together its 11th Annual Alumni Swim Meet on Saturday evening at Kennedy High School.
Proceeds from the meet benefitted the Wounded Warrior Foundation, according to the school’s athletics Twitter page. It was a great evening for a great cause.

Getting into the holiday hoop (tournament) spirit
There are plenty of area holiday basketball tournaments going on, and here are the ones area teams are involved in:
Hearts Holiday Tournament
It was a tough evening for the Kaynor Tech and Sacred Heart girls basketball teams, which both lost their games on Saturday. As a result, they will play each other on Jan. 2 at 4:15 p.m. in the third place game.
The winners, Joel Barlow and Naugatuck, play at 6 p.m. on the same day.
David T. Rybczyk Memorial Tournament
Some locals will take part in this tourney, which begins Monday at Plainville High School.
In girls games, St. Paul plays Pomperaug at 3 p.m. The other game is Plainville against Sacred Heart Academy.
On the boys side, Waterbury Career Academy takes on Plainville at 7:45 p.m. The other game is Wilcox Tech against Haddam-Killingworth.
The championship and consolation games are scheduled for Tuesday.
News-Times Greater Danbury Holiday Festival
This 11th annual girls basketball tournament brings in defending champion Bristol Eastern. In a match up of last year’s finalists, the Lancers are scheduled to play New Fairfield at about 7:30 p.m. at the Danbury War Memorial. The other game, slated for 6, is between Danbury and New Milford.
The consolation and championship games are Wednesday at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Mercy Classic
The Holy Cross girls will play Career on Monday in a tourney that also includes Mercy and Lauralton Hall. As far as a game time goes for Holy Cross-Career, your guess is as good as mine. It’s listed as TBA or TBD on every CIAC and school site. Mercy-Lauralton is at 6:45 p.m. Th consolation and championship games are Tuesday.
CPTV Sports Tip-Off Classic
There’s one team in this inaugural competition, and it’s Crosby. The Bulldogs face New London on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Maloney High School in Meriden. There are two games on Monday and Tuesday.
Wednesday’s tournaments
The Kaynor Tech and Waterbury Career girls are slated to play in tournaments on Wednesday. Kaynor Tech goes to the CSC Holiday Tournament while WCA will play in a tourney in West Haven. Opponents and times weren’t listed on the CIAC website.
The Kaynor Tech boys will also be at a tournament on Wednesday. Opponent, time and location are not listed on the CIAC website. The Bristol Eastern boys are slated to be at a Nonnewaug holiday tournament in Woodbury.
