BC sending two track athletes to New England meet
Jevon Smith and Jorge Hernandez will represent Bristol Central indoor track and field at this coming weekend’s New England championship meet.
Smith and Hernandez were among the best in the state at Saturday’s Open, held at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. Smith finished second while Hernandez took fourth in the 55-meter hurdles. 
The New England meet will be held on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Facility in Roxbury, Mass. 

Gray finishes fourth in his weight class at Class S wrestling meet
St. Paul’s Matthew Gray took fourth at 220 pounds in the Class S state championship wrestling meet at Plainville High School on Saturday.
Jordan Silva was fifth at 170 pounds for the Falcons while William Konikowski took sixth at 120.
Holy Cross also competed in the Class S meet. John Bowler finished in fifth place at 195 while Albert Nieves was sixth at 220.
The wrestlers listed above will compete in the State Open this coming weekend at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
St. Paul finished 16th as a team in Class S while Holy Cross was 19th.

Bristol Eastern girls hoop looks ahead to state tourney after early exit in CCCs
The Lancers were the No. 15 seed in the CCC Tournament and took the long bus ride to Storrs to play E.O. Smith. Eastern lost 67-37 in the first round matchup and awaits its seeding in the Class L state tournament.

Waterbury connection for Taft basketball
There’s several city girls playing for the Taft girls basketball team. Jalissa Rodriguez, Maggie O’Leary and Kayla Robinson all play for the prep school. Rodriguez is a junior captain. She had nine points, five assists and two steals in a 55-36 win over Williston-Northampton on Feb. 17.
For the Taft boys, Shamir Johnson and Connor Printz hail from Waterbury.
