Indoor track and field: Class championship recap

There were no team state championships from the Route 69 area, but there were plenty of good performances in the class meets at New Haven’s Floyd Little Athletic Center. Here they are, by town:

BRISTOL
Jevon Smith, Bristol Central (Class L): The senior took second in the 55-meter hurdles, .09 second behind champion Laurenzo Thompkins, a senior from Middletown.
Bristol Central 4×200-meter relay (L): The team of senior Jorge Hernandez, junior Luis Medina, junior Kaynan Conrod and senior Jevon Smith finished fifth out of 17 teams that finished the race.
Pierce Piana, St. Paul (Class S): The junior was sixth in the shot put out of 26 finishers.
Jorge Hernandez, Bristol Central (L): The senior got the finals of the 55-meter hurdles and finished sixth out of seven competitors. Hernandez knocked .04 second off his seed time in the preliminaries.
Bristol Eastern 4×800-meter relay (Class L): The team of senior Michael Centoni, senior Chadd Bernier, junior Harrison Dayton and junior Christopher LeBeau came in seventh out of 16 finishers.
Luis Medina, Bristol Central (L): The junior made it to the finals of the 55-meter dash, where he finished seventh out of seven competitors. Medina shaved .09 second off his seed time in the preliminaries.
Hannah Jones, Bristol Central (L): The junior placed ninth in the 3200-meter run.

WATERBURY
Jordon Wilkins, Kaynor Tech (Class M): The junior made the finals of the 55-meter hurdles, where he finished fifth. Wilkins knocked 0.04 second off his seed time in the preliminaries, then took another 0.1 second off his preliminary time in the finals.
Asabi Ifafore-Angoy, Crosby (Class L): The senior ended up sixth in the high jump out of 16 finishers.
Raymond Young, Wilby (Class L): The senior was sixth out of 32 finishers in the 300-meter dash.
Bryan Oliveira, Wilby (L): The sophomore placed eighth in the 3200-meter run.
Kyle Hotchkiss, Kennedy (Class L): The sophomore took 10th place in both the 1000 and 1600.
Terrell Patterson, Kaynor Tech (M): The junior finished 10th in the 1000.

WOLCOTT (CLASS M)
Jonathan Maldonado: The sophomore placed sixth in the 1000-meter run.
Michael Rapisarda: The senior tied for sixth in the 600-meter run.  

For the State Open, Smith qualified third in the 55-meter hurdles while his teammate Hernandez is 12th. The State Open takes place Saturday at noon at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
