St. Paul, Holy Cross wrestling compete in Berkshire Valley Invitational

When it comes to wrestling, the Berkshire and Naugatuck Valley leagues have struggled with numbers in recent years.
Last season, the Berkshire Valley Invitational was held for the first time at Nonnewaug High School. The second one was held Saturday at The Gilbert School in Winsted. For the second time, Terryville took first place. Local finishers were St. Paul in sixth and Holy Cross in seventh.
There was one winner from the area, and that was St. Paul’s Matt Gray at 220 pounds. Adam Ward took second at 106 for the Falcons. Will Konikowski (126), Chris Dionne (152), Jordan Silva (170) and Seb Lombardo (195) each took fourth place for St. Paul.
Holy Cross’ best finishes came from Aaron Velasquez (170), Jack Bowler (195) and Tito Nieves (220), who all took third place. Grayson Henderson finished fourth at 182 for the Crusaders.
