Holy Cross football coaches current and former get together today at Coginchaug scrimmage

In the high school football preseason, it’s common for coaches to schedule scrimmages against teams where their former coach is now working.
When Holy Cross and Coginchaug Regional get together today at 3:45 p.m. in Durham, the coaching staffs will be very familiar with each other. Steve Croce, the new head coach of Coginchaug, was the offensive coordinator for a slew of prolific Holy Cross teams from 2001-2007. That stretch including a 2006 state championship, where Steve’s son Mike was the quarterback. Steve Croce was also offensive coordinator at Pomperaug and Cheshire.
Looking back at that 2006 Holy Cross team, Mike Phelan was the head coach. Mike Giampetruzzi, the current head coach of the Crusaders, was on the staff, along with assistant coach Mike Mannetti and Croce.
To say the least, these guys know each other. The main goal of today’s scrimmage is for Holy Cross to get better. Along the way, Croce and the Crusaders will more than likely catch up.
