LEGION NORTHEAST REGIONAL: Bristol hangs on to win over Brattleboro, Vt., stays alive

Bristol Post 2 scored a single run in each of the first two innings, then Brad Burney made it hold up in an American Legion Northeast Regional elimination game against Brattleboro, Vt., on Thursday afternoon at Muzzy Field.
Bristol defeated Brattleboro 2-1 and will get a chance to play again tomorrow. Burney was superb for Post 2 in the complete-game victory. He threw 123 pitches, 85 for strikes. Burney struck out 13, walked one and allowed the single run on just four hits.
Bristol took advantage of Brattleboro errors in the first inning to plate the game’s first run, scored by Ben Mazzone. Mazzone had reached on an error.
In the second inning, Andrew Owsianko reached on a two-base error, moved to third on a passed ball, then scored on Richard Lemke’s ground out.
Bristol held the 2-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth, where Brattleboro put up its lone run. Kassidi Ramirez led off with a double, advanced to third on a ground out, then scored on Chayse Cunniff’s two-out single. 
Burney got a fly out to left fielder Kenneth Knox to end the game.
Bristol will face the loser of the RCP-Rochester, N.H. game in an elimination game tomorrow at 1 p.m.
