STAN MUSIAL WORLD SERIES: Interesting travel day possible for Watertown, Naugatuck

The AABC Stan Musial World Series began yesterday with four games at Municipal Stadium’s Bob Palmer Field in Waterbury.
Today, Bob Palmer Field will be utilized, but so will Deland Field in Watertown and Fuessenich Park in Torrington. That could make for an interesting travel day for the Watertown Blaze and Naugatuck Dogs of the Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League.
Watertown, a 5-1 winner over the Bourne Mariners of Massachusetts yesterday, host the Nassau Yankees (Long Island) at noon at Deland Field.
If the Blaze win, they would hop on routes 63 and 73 to go back to Municipal Stadium. There, they would play the winner of the Syracuse Yankees and Albany Athletics (New York) at 7 p.m. If the Blaze lose, they would make that same trip sooner and play an elimination game against Bourne or Steel City (Pennsylvania).
Naugatuck, which lost 2-0 to the Albany Athletics yesterday, gets its start today with a noon elimination game at Fuessenich Park. The Dogs need to win, and if they do, they would hop on Route 8 for a quick ride to Municipal Stadium. There, they would meet the loser of the Watertown-Nassau game at 4 p.m. in another elimination contest.
Of course, it would be ironic if Watertown and Naugatuck were to play in the 4 p.m. game, given they already know each other pretty well. The Blaze and Dogs were the top teams in the Tri-State League, and they also played each other for the Stan Musial State Tournament championship, which the Blaze won.
After today, all games will be at Bob Palmer Field. A winner will be crowned Saturday, or if necessary, on Sunday.
