Kyren Petteway runs, passes Waterbury Career Academy to first varsity football win

Waterbury Career Academy football arrived on the varsity stage Friday night with a resounding 58-13 win over Wilby at Ray Snyder Sr. Field (Municipal Stadium).
The Spartans have a star on their squad, and his name is Kyren Petteway. The junior quarterback accounted for seven of the nine WCA touchdowns, according to tweets from the game from Bryan Baker.
Petteway ran for seven touchdowns on rushes of 38, 50, 41, 12 and 3 yards. Petteway threw touchdowns of 19 and 25 yards, the second one to Jaden Battle.
WCA also got touchdown runs from Josiah Rivers and Nate Alvarado.
Wilby scored its touchdowns on runs by Raymond Padin and Rahmal Payton.
WCA’s next game is — gulp — at Ansonia next Friday at 7 p.m. Ansonia will be coming off of a 62-21 whipping of Wolcott. The Spartans will get the chance to see how they match up against the league superpower.
Wilby hosts Torrington next Thursday at 6 p.m. at Municipal.
