Bristol Eastern girls, Central boys deny rivals tourney spots at Muzzy

There were state tournament spots up for grabs at Muzzy Field on Tuesday evening when Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central’s soccer teams met for the second time.
The girls played in the first match, and the Lancers claimed a 4-1 victory over the Rams. Eastern finished the regular season 7-8-1. Central needed a win to get into the Class L state tournament — same as Eastern — but was denied. The Rams finished the season 5-10-1.
It was a tough stretch to end the season for Central. The Rams had an overtime loss to Middletown and a tie against Plainville during a seven-match winless streak.
Eastern will play in the Class L state tournament.
In the boys match, it was Eastern that needed a win to qualify for Class L. The Lancers were denied, however, by the Rams by a score of 4-1. Central will play in the Class L state tournament after posting a 7-7-2 regular season record. Eastern finished the season with a record of 4-9-3.
