Holy Cross girls soccer’s great NVL runs ends on PKs in final

The Holy Cross girls soccer team made an amazing run to the NVL Tournament final, which was played tonight on Veterans Field at Naugatuck High School.
Facing Watertown, one of the league’s best program’s, the Crusaders held their own and battled their way through overtime into penalty kicks. The Indians came out on top in PKs by a tally of 6-5.
Holy Cross, the No. 4 seed in the NVL Tournament, started its run with a 3-1 win over No. 5 Oxford last Saturday at Post University. The Crusaders reached the final by downing Woodland on PKs.
Holy Cross posted 10-3-3 regular season record under first-year head coach Philip A. Mongelluzzo Jr. and should earn a good seed in the Class S state tournament. The Crusaders will find out their seed officially tomorrow when the pairings are released by the CIAC.
