GIRLS HOOP: Holy Cross rallies for huge road win over Torrington

It didn’t look good for the Holy Cross girls basketball team on Friday night at Torrington.
The Crusaders trailed their long-time NVL rival Raiders 42-28 entering the fourth quarter at the Connie Donahue Gymnasium.
Holy Cross turned the tables on Torrington and won 60-56 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
With as little as 2:12 to play in the fourth quarter, the Crusaders were down 53-50 to the Raiders. At 1:26 to go, Torrington still led 54-52.
From the 1:26 point on, the Crusaders outscored their opponent 8-2 to claim a stunning victory.
The game didn’t start out well at all for Holy Cross. The Crusaders found themselves in an 18-7 hole after one quarter. Holy Cross cut the deficit to 28-22 by the half, but Torrington outscored it 14-6 in the third quarter to lead 42-28.
That’s when the Crusaders began their march back into the game.
Holy Cross plays Mercy of Middletown next Tuesday in the CPTV Sports Classic at Meriden’s Maloney High School. The tipoff is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
