WRESTLING: Bristol Eastern claims lone local win on opening night

The eighth-ranked Bristol Eastern wrestling team was the only local squad to win on opening night Wednesday.
The Lancers traveled to South Windsor and defeated the host Bobcats 50-30.
Senior Anthony Lozier, junior Mikey Barrett, sophomore Trinidad Gonzalez and sophomore Noah Piazza all claimed pins for Bristol Eastern. Juniors Jordon Champagne and Noah Corliss also picked up wins for the Lancers.
Bristol Eastern’s next event is the CJ McCormack Invitational on Saturday at Berlin High School.
East Hartford 54, Bristol Central 25: Sophomore Mason Hale offered up the best effort for the Rams in a road loss to the Hornets.
Bristol Central is scheduled to wrestle again on Saturday in the Plainville Invitational at Plainville High School.
Ellis Tech 66, St. Paul 9: It wasn’t a pleasant night on the road for the Falcons.
The lone wins came from Patrick George and Jordan Silva, according to The Bristol Press. George won via pin and Silva claimed victory via decision.
A new tri-op in the area: Holy Cross has joined forces with Thomaston and Litchfield to form a wrestling team.
Both Holy Cross and Thomaston have had issues with numbers in the past. Litchfield is a newcomer. The tri-op lost 56-6 to Gilbert on Wednesday night.
Michael Herschenfeld is listed as the tri-op’s coach on the Thomaston version of the roster. The Holy Cross wrestlers are senior Phil Serva, juniors Grayson Henderson and Albert Nieves, and sophomore Nick Pietrorazio. 
The tri-op is scheduled to wrestle again on Saturday at the Pomperaug Invitational.
