HIGH 5 OF THE WEEK: Harnish holding his own as freshman at Springfield

He may be a freshman, but this former Holy Cross standout isn’t out of his league with the Pride.
The team results haven’t been there, but Harnish continues to do well. In a Jan. 7 home tri-meet against Hartwick and Union, Harnish was part of a trio of third place finishes, including two individually.
First, Harnish was part of a team that finished third in the 200-yard medley relay. In the 200 butterfly, Harnish put forth a good effort and took third place. Harnish finished in third for the final time in the 100 butterfly.
Harnish is a business major at Springfield. He specializes in the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events for the Pride. 
At Holy Cross, Harnish competed in swimming and diving for four years under head coach Mary Racevicius. Harnish also competed in soccer, track and field, tennis and lacrosse.


Beaudoin (Newbury athletics)

Beaudoin finds himself in a different situation this winter.
After running outdoors for the Newbury cross country team, the former Bristol Central runner competes indoors as part of the school’s first indoor track and field team.
The team had its first meet on Dec. 3, the UMass-Boston Indoor Open. Beaudoin ran in the 1,000 meters and turned in a Top 20 performance.
Beaudoin is a senior at Newbury. During the cross country season, Beaudoin finished third overall in the Wheelock Cross Country Runner.
Beaudoin is majoring in Criminal Justice at Newbury.

Chelsea Houlihan, UMass-Dartmouth basketball

In high school, Houlihan traveled from her hometown of Wolcott to Waterbury to attend Holy Cross.
For college, Houlihan made her way first to Chestnut Hill before moving on to the eastern shores of Massachusetts to suit up for UMass-Dartmouth. Now a junior, Houlihan has played in all 14 of her team’s games, each one as a starter. She is averaging 25.6 minutes per game and scoring 4.9 points per contest. 
Houlihan’s season-high for points, 13, came in the Nov. 15 opener against Worcester Polytechnic Institute. For assists, she had eight in a Dec. 10 game at Plymouth State. 
Houlihan started all 27 games in her first season with UMass-Dartmouth last year.

Flowers (CCRI athletics)

The Kennedy standout went across the border to start his collegiate career, and he has seen a good amount of playing time as a freshman.
Flowers has played in 15 of his team’s games and made one start. Flowers is averaging 14.9 minutes per game and a productive 7.8 points and 2.3 rebounds during that time on the floor. He is shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and 37.5 from beyond the three-point line.
Flowers has scored in double figures on seven different occasions this season, with a high of 17 in an 81-67 win over Navy Prep on Dec. 15. 
On defense, Flowers has had three steals in a game twice and two steals in a game twice.

Shoultz (Dean athletics)

The former Bristol Eastern player is seeing some time on the court as a freshman with the Bulldogs.
Shoultz has played in 13 of 15 games for Dean, including one start. She is averaging 3.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals in her limited playing time. 
Shoultz has scored in double figures twice this season with a high of 16 on Dec. 1 at Bunker Hill Community College. She also had 10 points in the season opener on Nov. 3 at Great Bay Community College.
Shoultz is shooting a robust 40.4 percent from the field (21-of-52).
