HIGH 5 OF THE WEEK: Trio of Brass City hoopsters doing well at junior, community college levels

The former Kennedy standout has been one of a trio of scorers for the Thunderbirds.
Jarrett is one of three players in double figures for points per game for Casper College this season. He is averaging 10.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in 17 games, including 16 starts. Jarrett is shooting nearly 40 percent from the field and an awesome 90.3 percent from the foul line. 
Jarrett had a pair of great games last week. He tallied 18 points during last Thursday’s 70-62 win over Northwest. Jarrett added 10 points last Saturday in a 61-57 win at Sheridan.
Jarrett has scored in double figures in nine of the 17 games, with a high of 22 points on Nov. 11 against Miles.

Douglas (Sikiyous athletics)

The sophomore and former Kaynor Tech standout is one of the leading scorers in the Golden Valley Conference.
Douglas is fourth in the league at 15.3 points per game. The Golden Valley Conference is part of the California Community College Athletic Association. Douglas has had several high-scoring games, including 30 points in a 90-86 win over Porterville in Dec. 9. Douglas has scored in double digits 10 times in 13 games. He has also tallied 27, 25 and 20 points this season.
Douglas is shooting a solid 43.4 percent from the floor. He is averaging 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
Douglas has a Waterbury teammate at Siskiyous, and his name is Juan Parilla Jr.

Parrilla Jr. (Siskiyous athletics)

Juan Parrilla Jr., College of Siskiyous basketball
Parrilla, also a sophomore and former player at Crosby, has played in 16 games for the California college, including 15 starts.
Parrilla is averaging 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Parrilla is shooting 39.5 percent from three-point range. According to the statistics on the CCCAA website, Parrilla is ranked eighth in the Golden Valley Conference in three-point percentage. His 51 assists rank him 6th.
Like Douglas, Parrilla scored his season high in points on Dec. 9 against Porterville. Parrilla scored 21 points in the 90-86 win.

Snyder IV (SCSU athletics)

This senior and former Sacred Heart star put together strong performances on back-to-back days for the Owls.
Snyder won two events during a 130-93 victory over Saint Rose on Jan. 13. Snyder finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and the 200 backstroke. Snyder swam the 50 freestyle in 22.53 seconds and the 200 backstroke in 2:00.96.
On Jan. 14, SCSU beat Le Moyne College 153-133, and Snyder again won two events. Snyder completed the 100 backstroke in 53.86 seconds, then did the 200 backstroke in 2:01.10.
Snyder is an Exercise Science major.

Gioielli (CCSU athletics)

The former Wolcott runner was one of two Blue Devils to compete in the Nittany Lion Challenge last Saturday on the campus of Penn State.
Gioielli, a senior, finished sixth in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:25.33. 
At the Wagner Invitational on Jan. 6, Gioielli finished third in the 3,000 meters. Gioielli did so in a time of 8:29.32.
Gioielli has had some solid accomplishments competing for CCSU. He has several track athlete of the week honors to his credit, and he helped the outdoor team capture the 2016 NEC championship, the third straight for the program. Gioielli won the 1,500, finished second in the 800, and anchored the winning 4×800 relay.
 As a freshman, Gioielli was named to the All-NEC Rookie team in indoor track. 
At Wolcott, Gioielli was All-State in outdoor track and earned All-New England honors in indoor track, both coming as a senior. He also had the honor of competing in the New Balance indoor and outdoor nationals.
