INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: Kaynor’s Wilkins captures state title in Class M

The Kaynor Tech indoor track and field teams had to wait until Monday to take part in the Class M championship meet in New Haven.
The wait was worth it for Panther senior Jordon Wilkins. Wilkins, seeded first in the 55-meter hurdles, went on to win the event in 7.82 seconds. Wilkins shaved .14 second off his preliminary time and beat the second place finisher by .14 second.
He wasn’t the only Kaynor athlete to earn team points inside the Floyd Little Athletic Center. Fellow senior Terrell Patterson finished second in the 600 meters and sixth in the 3200.
Those three performances from Wilkins and Patterson put the Panthers into the Top 10 in team points with 19.
Wolcott also took part in the Class M meet. The top finisher for the Eagles was junior Jonathan Maldonado, who took fourth place in the 1000 meters.
For the Wolcott girls, a senior and a freshman each finished fifth in separate events. Senior Cynthia Dias was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles while freshman Kathryn Rodrigues took fifth in the 1600.
