WOLCOTT’S WEEKLY ROUNDUP #7: Eagle girls win two games, get to 10 victories for season

It was a tough week weather-wise for Wolcott athletics. The Class M indoor track and field championship was postponed to this Monday at 4 p.m. in New Haven. Girls and boys basketball games against Oxford were postponed to Saturday.
The Wolcott girls did get a game in Wednesday, and they came up with a big win over Woodland, 48-45. The Eagles held off the Hawks after a fourth quarter charge by the visitors inside John M. Morris Gymnasium.
Raven Cody, Saranda Alka and Alayna Greene all scored in double figures for Wolcott. Greene put together a double-double while Alka finished one rebound short.
The Eagles hammered Oxford 58-18 at home on Saturday to improve to 10-9. The game was pushed to Saturday because of wintry weather.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Wolcott had one game this week and lost 70-62 to Oxford on Saturday at home. The Eagles are 5-11, but they are still in the running for a Class M state tournament berth. The CIAC wants to have 32 teams in each of the four class tournaments, and Wolcott is 35th in Class M.
