WOLCOTT’S WEEKLY ROUNDUP #9: Boys hoop season ends, girls learn state seed

The Wolcott boys basketball season came to a close on Wednesday night at home.
The Eagles were defeated 71-58 by Ansonia inside John Morris Gymnasium. Wolcott had an outside shot at the state tournament, but lost its last three games to finish 6-14.
Pat Drewry was the leading scorer in his final Wolcott game, tallying 17 points. Mike Tessarzik scored 14 points while Bob White added 11 in his last game as an Eagle. It was also the final Wolcott game for Justin Fernandes, Ray Iorio (2 points), Preston Lavoie, Ken Pond and Ryan Tumel, according to the team’s CIAC roster.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
After losing to Holy Cross in a NVL Tournament quarterfinal last Saturday, Wolcott found out where its headed in the first round of the Class M state tournament.
The Eagles (11-9 regular season) are the No. 24 seed and will hit the road next Tuesday to play No. 9 Waterford (16-4). The Lancers play in the Eastern Connecticut Conference.
