CIAC BOYS HOOP ROUNDUP: Kennedy, Holy Cross both reach semifinals

The Kennedy and Holy Cross boys basketball teams had to wait an extra day, but both secured berths in the state semifinal round after wins on Saturday afternoon.

Here’s more on each game:
CLASS LL QUARTERFINAL
No. 8 Kennedy 65, No. 17 Danbury 60: For the third straight game, the Eagles edged out a Class LL opponent inside Jack Taglia Gymnasium.
Kennedy (20-5) will face No. 4 East Hartford on Tuesday — weather permitting — at 7 p.m. at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. You read that right, the game is in New Haven. The FLAC is a great venue, but a lengthy ride for both teams and their fans. Apparently a neutral host couldn’t be found between Waterbury and East Hartford.
Kennedy has won its three Class LL games by six points or less. The Eagles defeated No. 25 Cheshire 54-48 in the first round and outlasted No. 9 Simsbury 52-50 in the second round. On Saturday, Kennedy took out a Danbury team that had upset top-seeded Notre Dame-West Haven in the previous round.
CLASS M QUARTERFINAL
No. 4 Holy Cross 83, No. 5 Prince Tech 65: The Crusaders ran away from their Constitution State Conference opponent in a high-scoring affair at the Tim McDonald Gymnasium.
Holy Cross (21-5) will play No. 8 Bloomfield on Tuesday — again, weather permitting — at 7 p.m. at New Britain High School. Saturday marked the second 18-point margin of victory for the Crusaders in this playoff run. In its other game, Holy Cross hammered Rocky Hill by a 42-point spread.
