CIAC GIRLS HOOP DAY 4: St. Paul punches ticket to Class M quarterfinals

Area girls basketball teams went 1-1 in state tournament action Friday night.
Class M No. 7 seed St. Paul will be playing in a quarterfinal round game after its home win. Class LL No. 15 seed Bristol Eastern saw its season end on the road against a powerful Enfield squad.

CLASS M SECOND ROUND
No. 7 St. Paul 52, No. 23 Valley Regional 33: The Falcons had a scare put into them by the Warriors, but used a big fourth quarter to prevail.
St. Paul (22-3) will play at second-seeded Career of New Haven next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal round game. The Panthers, from the Southern Connecticut Conference, ousted No. 18 Rocky Hill of the CCC, 48-38.
Janessa Gonzalez scored 20 points, including 12 big ones in the fourth quarter to help St. Paul pull away from its Shoreline Conference foe. The Falcons outscored the Warriors 20-4 in the fourth quarter. Brigid Johndrow tallied 16 points for St. Paul while Chantell Lopez added nine.

CLASS LL SECOND ROUND
No. 2 Enfield 72, No. 15 Bristol Eastern 37: The Lancers couldn’t stop the Eagles, also from the CCC, and saw their season come to a close.
Diana Wnuk had 14 points in her final game in an Eastern uniform. The Lancers also got eight points from Miranda Janick and six from Hannah Maghini.
Eastern finished 17-7 overall. It was the final game for seniors Wnuk, Jillian LeBeau and Miya Laprise.
