Tracy Garofalo has had a long relationship with softball in the city of Waterbury, and she just hit a coaching milestone.
Garofalo, a former Sacred Heart High School head coach, earned her 200th career victory as Post University’s leader. The milestone win came in a doubleheader sweep of the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday. Garofalo is in her 10th season as head coach of the Eagles.
Post knocked off Bridgeport 3-2 and 4-3 (8 innings) at LaMoy Field in Waterbury. With the wins, Garofalo increased her program record for most victories at an even 200. The Eagles trailed 3-0 in the sixth inning of the second game, but were able to rally for the win and give Garofalo her milestone achievement. The wins are the most since the program moved to Division II of the NCAA.
Garofalo was a tremendous two-sport athlete at Post. She went on to coach in both the girls basketball and softball programs at Sacred Heart. Garofalo was an assistant on the basketball staff and a head coach for softball.
In 2005, Garofalo led the Heart softball team to 12-8 regular season. Sacred Heart then went on a magical run and reached the Class S semifinals, where it lost 2-0 to Thomaston at West Haven High School. The Hearts were the No. 15 seed, but took down No. 18 Abbott Tech, No. 31 Old Lyme and No. 7 St. Paul Catholic to reach the semifinal round.
