HIGH 5 OF THE WEEK: Malik Petteway earns first team all-conference honor

Malik Petteway, Northwest Florida State College basketball

Petteway (NW Florida State athletics)

The former Sacred Heart standout was part of a Raider sweep of the Panhandle Conference’s First Team.
Petteway is putting up 9.6 points and seven rebounds per night, but more impressive is his 62.2 percent shooting from the floor. He is a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward for Northwest Florida State. Petteway has played in all 28 games and has started each one. He is averaging 23.7 minutes per game.
There’s a reason why the entire Raider starting five made the first team. Northwest Florida State was 26-2 in the regular season, including a perfect 12-0 in the conference, the first time the team has ever done that.
Up next for Petteway and the Raiders is a Florida College System Activities Association Tournament game against Florida Southwestern next Thursday at 5 p.m. in Ocala, Fla.

Bonicki (Clark athletics)

Kyle Bonicki and Josh Dobratz, Clark University baseball
The local duo swept the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference weekly awards on Monday. Bonicki was named Player of the Week while Dobratz earned Pitcher of the Week.
Bonicki, a former Chase Collegiate standout, hit .375 in a 2-0 weekend for the Cougars. In the first game against Elms last Saturday, Bonicki reached base three times and was 1-for-3 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Clark had a dramatic 4-3 win in 10 innings over Keene State last Sunday, and Bonicki was right in the middle of it. He had a RBI triple in the eighth inning, then led off the bottom of the 10th with a double. Bonicki scored on an error and set off a big celebration.
For the weekend, Bonicki had a .500 on-base percentage, .750 slugging percentage, scored five of his team’s 13 runs and extended his hitting streak from last season to 11 games.

Dobratz (Clark athletics)

Dobratz, a former St. Paul stalwart, was big in relief on the mound for Clark. The Cougars rallied for a 9-6 lead over Elms, then handed the ball to Dobratz in the top of the ninth inning. Dobratz fired a 1-2-3 ninth inning and picked up the second save of his career.
In the Keene State game, Dobratz claimed a victory on the mound after putting up two scoreless innings. He struck out two in those two innings, then erased his only baserunner — walk — by starting a 1-6-3 double play.
In two games, Dobratz was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and one save in three innings pitched. He struck out two, walked one and didn’t allow a hit.
Both Bonicki and Dobratz are in their junior seasons with Clark.

Parrilla (Siskiyous athletics)

Juan Parrilla Jr. and Trekel Douglas,
University of the Siskiyous basketball

The Eagles had a very difficult season and finished with a 4-22 record, but these former Waterbury players each put up some pretty good numbers.

Douglas (Siskiyous athletics)

Parrilla played in all 26 games and started 25 of them. He scored 10.9 points per game and shot 40.6 percent from three-point range (37.2 percent overall). Parrilla averaged three rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.5 turnovers and 1.1 steals per game. He scored 17 or more points in a game seven times, including a high of 21.
Douglas played in 17 games and made 13 starts. He averaged 13.9 points per game on 42.4 percent shooting from the field. Douglas also put up 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 3.2 turnovers and 1.1 steals per contest. He once scored 30 points in a game, his season high, and he put up 17 or more points six separate times.
Parrilla played for Crosby High School while Douglas suited up for Kaynor Tech.
