Petteway and NW Florida State pull off upset of top seed

In the upset of the tournament, No. 8 Northwest Florida State and Malik Petteway knocked off top-seeded San Jacinto-Central 98-82 in a NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship quarterfinal Thursday.
No. 5 Odessa College and Tyshon Rogers saw their season come to an end in an 89-86 loss to No. 4 Hutchinson on Hutchinson’s home floor.
Here’s what happened in each game, along with what’s ahead for Friday:

No. 8 Northwest Florida State 98, No. 1 San Jacinto-Central 82
Eight seconds into the game, Petteway made his presence known with an offensive rebound.
On the defensive end, Petteway announced himself with a loud blocked shot 1:16 in. Petteway helped set the tone for the Raiders, who ran away from the championship’s top seed. Petteway scored just five points in 30 minutes, but he made a major impact underneath the basket on both ends. He had 14 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Petteway finished 1-of-3 from the floor and 3-of-7 at the foul line. He also had one assist in the game.
Northwest Florida State (29-3) will play No. 4 Hutchinson on its home floor, the Hutchinson Sports Arena, on Friday at 7 p.m. in the first semifinal game.

No. 4 Hutchinson 89, No. 5 Odessa 86
The Wranglers were ahead of the crowd favorite by 17 points in the first half, but the Blue Dragons rallied and took the win.
Rogers played 11 minutes and scored two points on 1-of-3 shooting, including a miss on his only three-point attempt. He had three rebounds and two turnovers in his final game with the Wranglers.
Odessa finishes the season with a 28-6 record.
