That's according to the CIAC, but Mother Nature decided to play an April Fool's joke of sorts on the Sacred Heart baseball and Wolcott golf teams. The Hearts played their season opener late Monday morning at Naugatuck. Ditto for the Eagles, who opened with the Greyhounds at Farmingbury Hills Country Club.
With plenty of sunshine, some fair-weather clouds, and temperatures in the 70s, it was a great day to kick off the season, finally.
Here's a little bit about how each event went:

5-3 to Naugatuck at Naugatuck High School.
Naugatuck 5, Sacred Heart 3
The Hearts got off to a good start with two runs in their first plate appearances of the season.
Larry Zapata was hit by a pitch leading off the game, then Peyton Stephens walked. With two outs, pitcher Will Morales drew another walk. Zapata scored on a passed ball with Noah Knappe at the plate, then Stephens came home on a double steal.
Knappe led off the top of the fourth inning with a triple, then scored on a fielder's choice from Bryan Fernandez.
Sacred Heart was looking good with a 3-0 lead, but Naugatuck struck for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up. The Greyhounds added two runs in the fifth to take the lead for good.
There may have been a little rust for the Hearts in the field, given they made four errors. Remember, this was Game 1 of 20, and it didn't come until the second full week of the season.
Wolcott 181, Naugatuck 232
The Eagles hit the course for the first time, and senior Preston Lavoie had a solid day.
Lavoie was the medalist with a 3-over-par 37. Logan Durant (44) and Matt Romeo (48) also made it under 50 for Wolcott. Jack Gould rounded out the scoring with a 52. Lavoie's 37 was impressive considering it was the season opener.
Durant is just a sophomore. Gould is another senior while Romeo is a junior.
Naugatuck's Colin Sheedy had a 46 to lead his team. It was lone Greyhound score under 50 on the day.
