BRISTOL’S SPRING ROUNDUP #5: Lancers sweep Rams in first softball and baseball encounters

Put two wins on the board for Bristol Eastern after its first meetings on the diamond against Bristol Central last Monday.
Both the Lancer softball and baseball teams won via 3-0 scores. Erin Girard had the complete game shutout for softball while Zac Marquis did the same for baseball.
The rivals meet again on Monday, May 22. Eastern hosts Central in softball at 3:45, then the Rams are home at Muzzy Field against the Lancers at 7 o’clock.

SOFTBALL
Speaking of Bristol Eastern, the Lancers won two games at two different sites on the same day last week. Eastern blasted East Hartford 16-0 in six innings at East Hartford, then took down Maloney 11-3 under the lights of the Dunn Sports Complex in Meriden. The wins got the Lancers to 10-2 on the season.
Girard AOW: The freshman right-hander was voted CPTV Sports UChoose Student-Athlete of the Week. It was announced last Monday.

BASEBALL
St. Paul went 4-0 last week with victories over Sacred Heart, Ansonia, Torrington and Derby. The Falcons started with a 3-2 victory over the Hearts on Monday, then added the three other wins on consecutive days. St. Paul was 11-2 after the completion of last week’s games.

GIRLS TENNIS
St. Paul won four times in four days last week to improve to 11-2.
The Falcons knocked off Holy Cross 4-3 on Monday, then took down Ansonia on Tuesday and Torrington on Wednesday. On Thursday, St. Paul defeated Woodland 4-3 at Peck Park. The first three matchups of the week were on the road.
Bristol Eastern won two of its three matches to get to 5-3.

BOYS LACROSSE
St. Paul won three matches last week to extend a season-long winning streak to four.
The Falcons knocked off Bristol Eastern, Holy Cross and Woodstock Academy to improve to 7-4.

BOYS TENNIS
Bristol Eastern was 5-2 after a pair of 5-2 victories last week.
The Lancers beat Plainville at home on Monday, then won at Newington on Thursday.

GOLF
In the first city matchup, Bristol Central snuck past Bristol Eastern by one stroke last Monday, 206-207 at Chippanee Country Club.
