WOLCOTT’S SPRING ROUNDUP #5: Eagles win matchup of boys tennis titans

Wolcott boys tennis met and took down its biggest challenge so far this season Thursday when it defeated Torrington 7-2 at Torrington High School.
Both teams were undefeated entering the contest, and the Red Raiders did battle the Eagles in some individual matches. In the end, Wolcott came out on top and improved to 14-0 while handing Torrington its first loss of the season.
In singles, the Eagles picked up singles wins from No. 1 Matt Spina, No. 2 Matt Mastropietro, No. 3 Alex Hale, No. 4 Jackson Yost and No. 5 Mike Perreault.
In doubles, Wolcott won at No. 1 behind Spina and Mastropietro and No. 2 with the team of Hale and Yost.
Wolcott is scheduled to close the regular season at home against Torrington on Thursday.

SOFTBALL
Wolcott improved to 10-4 on the season after a 3-1 week.
The Eagles knocked off Waterbury Career Academy, Sacred Heart and Woodland. Wolcott blasted WCA 17-4, defeated Sacred Heart 16-1 and shut out Woodland 5-0. The only Eagle loss of the week was to a strong Torrington squad.

BOYS LACROSSE
Wolcott reached a milestone with a 16-6 road win over Windsor on Tuesday. The victory put the Eagles at the .500 mark for the first time in program history (not counting 0-0). Wolcott improved to 4-4 with the win and has won two straight matches.
After a road match at Wamogo tomorrow, Wolcott is home for its last four matches of the regular season — Amistad-Career, St. Paul, Bristol Eastern and Watertown.
