HIGH 5 OF THE WEEK: Borecki, Gioielli earn All-NEC track and field honors

Sam Borecki and Joe Gioielli, CCSU outdoor track and field

Borecki (CCSU athletics)

Borecki and Gioielli had strong seasons, so it’s fitting that the duo earned All-Northeast Conference honors for their efforts with the Blue Devils.
Borecki, former Holy Cross standout and Cheshire native, was named First Team All-NEC. He is a junior at CCSU and has one year left. Gioielli, a strong runner for Wolcott, earned Second Team All–NEC accolades in his senior season.
Borecki stood out in the pole vault at the NEC championship meet. He won a jump-off with a final mark of 4.50 meters (@14.76 feet).

Gioielli (CCSU athletics)

Gioielli claimed Second Team honors in two different events, the 800 and 1500 meters. He ran 1:53.95 in the 800, then came in at 3:59.53 in the 1500. Gioielli also helped the CCSU 4×800-meter relay claim a bronze medal. The 4×400 team Gioielli was on finished sixth. Gioielli contributed 25 points to the CCSU effort at the NEC meet. As it turns out, Gioilli is also up for NEC Male Student-Athlete of the Year, along with three other people.
The Blue Devils won their fourth straight NEC championship, and Borecki and Gioielli were right in the middle of it.

Kyle Pileski and Mitch Guilmette, Framingham State
and CCSU baseball

Pileski (Framingham St. athletics)

There will be no place like home this summer for this pair of former Bristol Central standouts.
Both are on the roster for the Bristol Blues of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England. The Blues play their home games at Muzzy Field, a place Pileski and Guilmette are very familiar with.

Guilmette (CCSU athletics)

Pileski is already with the Blues and started the team’s season opener on Thursday at first base against the Nashua Silver Knights. He was also at first base on the road Friday night against the Worcester Bravehearts. The Blues are off to an 0-3 start and Pileski is looking for his first hit of the season. He does have a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Guilmette will soon be joining his Bristol Central teammate. Guilmette’s CCSU squad played in the TCU Regional of the NCAA Tournament and went 0-2. After going hitless in the first game, Guilmette had two singles and two RBI in a 6-5 loss to Texas Baptist.

Kyle Dube, Fairfield University baseball

Dube (Fairfield athletics)

When the Stags needed the senior to be at his best, he was.
Dube earned Garden Catering Student-Athlete of the Month for his efforts in May. He went 2-0 in three starts during the month and helped Fairfield earn a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season championship. Dube’s ERA was a stellar 2.10 over 24.2 total innings of work. He struck out 19 batters over that span. The two wins in May helped Dube equal his career-high of six, first done during his junior season.
Dube finished the season with a record of 6-3 over 14 appearances, 13 of which were starts. His ERA was 3.84 and he struck out 59 batters in 77.1 innings. Dube walked just 23 batters in that same span.
Dube was a standout baseball player at St. Paul in Bristol.
