Holy Cross softball completes Class S three-peat with win over St. Paul

Holy Cross softball beat St. Paul for its third straight Class S title on Friday night

The Class S state championship plaque will once again reside with Holy Cross.
The second-seeded Crusaders took down ninth-seeded NVL foe St. Paul 4-0 in the final on Friday night at Frank Biondi Softball Field in West Haven. Holy Cross has won the last three state championships.
Senior Sarah Lawton closed her impressive career with another splendid effort in the circle. Lawton yielded just three hits and one walk while compiling 13 strikeouts. She also had a two-run single in the second inning to put Holy Cross ahead 3-0.
Earlier in that inning, freshman catcher Jenna Mowad announced her arrival on center stage with a bang as she clubbed a solo home run. Mowad added a RBI double in the third and earned championship game MVP honors.
St. Paul saw its magical run end a win short of the ultimate prize. Alessandra Milardo gave up four runs (two earned) on nine hits, struck out three, walked one batter and hit another in her final game as a Falcon. Brigid Johndrow, Lindsey O’Bright and Abby Poirot each had one hit.
Much more to come on this game.
