Wolcott 19U Legion earns key doubleheader sweep (updated)

Wolcott Post 165 19U American Legion baseball picked up a big doubleheader sweep of Unionville on Sunday at Wolcott High School.
Wolcott is 9-8 in Zone 1 and owns a one-game lead over Simsbury for the fifth and final playoff spot from the zone. Post 165 began the doubleheader with an 8-5 win, then blew out Unionville 10-0 in the second game.
In the first game, Nate Murphy finished a single short of the cycle and drove in five runs out of the leadoff spot for Post 165. Murphy was 3-for-4, scored twice and also stole a base. Murphy homered to right field in the second inning to drive in three runs, then doubled to right in the fifth to bring in two more.
Jeff Nicol, Bobby White and Matt Warrren each drove in a run while Trey Nastri had two hits and a run scored.
Eric Gillotti tossed a six-inning, one-hit shutout in the second game as Wolcott mercied Unionville 10-0. Gillotti struck out four and walked none. Post 165 got two hits apiece from Steve Urbanski, Nicol, Nastri, Robert Taylor and Brad Grasso. Taylor had a triple, three RBI and scored twice while Grasso doubled and drove in two. Warren, Nicol, Nastri and Jeff Nobrega each had one RBI.
Wolcott faces Winsted today at 5:30 p.m. at Walker Field.
