Dionne Parker made her name as a high school basketball player at Sacred Heart.

She is doing so in another way now, as a coach. She was named assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach for the Lake Superior State University women’s basketball program, according to a press release posted today on the team website.
Parker has coached before at the middle school level and AAU. This is her first college coaching job.
Coaching basketball runs in the Parker family. Dionne’s father Darryl serves as an assistant coach to Jon Carroll for boys basketball at Sacred Heart.
Lake Superior State interim head coach Brandon Lokken had great things to say about Dionne Parker.
“Dionne is going to bring great energy to our program,” Lokken said in the release. “Being a young coach not to far removed from playing, Dionne is going to be able to connect well with our players. Building relationships is so important in a program and Dionne has a personality the girls are going to love.”
Lake Superior State is located in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The Lakers play at the NCAA Division II level.
Parker played collegiately at Coastal Carolina after walking onto the program for her sophomore year. She was a team manager as a freshman. Parker started 14 of 27 games in her junior season at Coastal Carolina.
Parker was a four-year captain of the Sacred Heart High School basketball team. Parker also did cross country, softball and track with the Hearts.
