High school football starts in a week

The official start of high school football for teams that didn’t conduct spring practice is a week away.
Monday, Aug. 14, is the first day that football teams can conduct conditioning sessions. There is no full-contact practice until Saturday, Aug. 19.
Most local teams chose to start earlier in the fall rather than conduct spring practice. Only Waterbury Career Academy, Wilby and Wolcott held spring practice. Of those three teams, Wolcott has a new head coach, Matt Hove. Peter Flammia returns as WCA head coach while Lamar Kennedy does the same at Wilby.
Bristol Central, Bristol Eastern, Crosby, Holy Cross, Kennedy, Sacred Heart/Kaynor Tech and St. Paul will all start on Aug. 14. SH/KT will be led by a new head coach, Thomas Allen.
