Bristol Central football knocked out Wethersfield in the first half of Friday evening’s 33-0 home win, making the second half a mere formality.
The Rams went on an eight-and-a-half minute drive to start the game, which ended with a Darrell Payton touchdown run. It was the first of three scores for Payton, according to a result reported to The Bristol Press. Dathan Hickey’s long completion to Nathan Rosa on a 3rd and 24 was a preview of things to come as Central controlled the contest, which was the WTNH Channel 8 Game of the Week.
The Rams used a 41-yard touchdown run from Hickey and a touchdown reception by Rosa to build a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Two more touchdowns later on from Payton completed the scoring for the Rams.
Central’s defense didn’t allow the Wethersfield offense to do much of anything. The Eagles tried to run the ball inside early but were stymied. Wethersfield also had trouble throwing the ball, making the early deficit that much larger.
The win is the first on the new turf field for Central, which improved to 2-1 on the season.
