In a hot afternoon boys soccer match that featured a pair of water breaks, Bristol Eastern downed Platt 3-0 on Monday on the turf at Bristol Eastern High School.
The Lancers improved to 2-3 while the Panthers dropped to 1-4.
The heat was on everyone’s minds, but that didn’t stop Eastern’s Jake Woznicki, Lyle Winiarski and Tom Lombardi from being all over the field. Woznicki led the offensive attack with two goals, but he had plenty of help in the effort department from Winiarski and Lombardi. Dante Costantiello was also an athletic presence in the midfield.
Eastern outhustled and outplayed Platt from the start. The Lancers struck quickly when Winiarski found Lombardi for his first goal with 33:12 left in the first half. From there, the Lancers had plenty of chances to add to the lead. On the other hand, the Panthers didn’t take a single shot. The half arrived with the home side ahead 1-0.
It took Eastern just 2:58 to go ahead 2-0. Lombardi finally found the net off a great set-up from Jared Greger. The Lancers continued to turn up the pressure on the Panthers and their keeper.
As with the first half, the teams took a water break midway through. Not long after the timeout, Woznicki blasted a shot over goal, as if to show only a water break would stop the Eastern pressure.
Late in the second half, Woznicki stole a soft pass, coasted in and scored his second goal to put the Lancers up 3-0. There was 3:19 left on the clock, Eastern was ahead 3-0, and its domination of the match was complete.
