Sacred Heart boys basketball continued to roll over the NVL on Tuesday night, dispatching Naugatuck by a 74-49 score.
Isiah Gaiter and Raheem Solomon combined to outscore the Greyhounds on their own, 52-49. Gaiter made six 3-pointers on the way to 30 points and Solomon tallied 22 points. Andre Anderson connected for 10 points and Connor Tierney added six.
Naugatuck started out hot behind the scoring of Jean Lukau. Lukau hit a 3 to open the scoring for the Greyhounds, then flew in for a layup. To make matters worse for Sacred Heart, Gaiter jammed his thumb going after the opening tip. Gaiter was out while Naugatuck made its early run, but returned quickly to the game.
After that, Sacred Heart took control. A missed shot or a turnover from the Greyhounds was the precursor to a Hearts fast break. Anderson fired a long pass to Gaiter for a layup, then Solomon tossed an alley-oop from the three-point line to Gaiter for a soft two-handed dunk. Solomon chased down a loose ball, then found Anderson under the basket for an easy left-hand layup.
Sacred Heart led 21-12 after one quarter, but Naugatuck played even in the second quarter and kept the deficit at nine by halftime.
The Hearts ran away with the game in a 20-4 third quarter. Sacred Heart improved to 11-2, 11-0 in NVL games. The Hearts are ranked third in the latest GameTimeCT/Register Top 10 poll.
