Holy Cross beats Naugatuck in boys swimming showdown

The Holy Cross and Naugatuck boys swimming and diving teams entered Tuesday night’s NVL showdown at Kennedy High School undefeated in league competition.

The Crusaders emerged with a 103-81 victory and the Greyhounds took away their first loss in the NVL and overall (4-1 NVL, 5-1 overall). Holy Cross improved to 5-0 in the NVL and 7-1 overall.
The Crusaders began the night with a win in the 200-yard medley relay from Lucas Racevicius, Ben Bowler, John Tucker and Brendan Lynch. Chris Fryer won the 200 freestyle, then Tucker followed with a first place finish in the 200 individual medley. Marcas Racevicius was the top diver, then Tucker was first in the 100 butterfly for his second individual victory of the night. Mason and Lucas Racevicius followed with wins in the 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle. 
The top team in the 200 freestyle relay was Holy Cross, with team members Bowler, Alex Ford, Mason and Fryer. Lucas Racevicius picked up another individual win in the 100 backstroke.
Even when Naugatuck had a winner, it ended up being a tie. Bowler and Naugatuck’s Zach Alves tied for first palce in the 100 breaststroke.
Holy Cross had a solid all-around effort on Tuesday, and it resulted in a big victory.
