St. Paul boys basketball found itself in a major fight on Tuesday night against Derby in the gym on Maltby Street.
Regulation wasn’t enough, and neither was one overtime. The teams went to double overtime. The Red Raiders had the lead in the final seconds, but the Falcons had the ball.
Mike Palmieri got into the lane and put up a floater. Palmieri’s shot went in with 1.8 seconds left, and St. Paul held on for the thrilling 90-89 win.
Palmieri had the final answer from the Falcons and scored 18 points, but he was far from the only star. Tyler Arbuckle scored a team-high 38 points and had five rebounds, and Matt Garry nearly contributed a triple-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds, nine steals and six assists.
Not to be forgotten were the efforts of Seth Foley, Brian Considine, Kevin Ashworth, Donovan Symes and and A.J. Brooks. St. Paul improved to 6-5 with the win.
