More pro basketball for Waterbury’s Ryan Gomes

Gomes (Power, Big3 Basketball League)

Former NBA player Ryan Gomes will be back playing basketball, though maybe not where you thought he he would be.

The Waterbury native and former star at Wilby High and Providence College was chosen in the Big3 Draft by the Power.
OK, so the first question is: What the heck is the Big3?
The Big3 is a second-year league co-founded by rap mogul Ice Cube, who has had a strong solo career after his time in NWA. It is three-on-three basketball. Ice Cube is co-CEO of the league, and the commissioner is none other than former NBA star and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler. Pretty heady stuff.
As for Gomes, his new teammates are Corey Maggette, Cutino Mobley, Glen Davis, Quentin Richardson and Chris Anderson. The team is coached by Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman.
The Big3 is filled with former NBA players and several teams are coached by former pro stars like Julius Erving and George Gervin.
It will be the first professional action for Gomes since he played for the Los Angeles D-Fenders in 2016. The D-Fenders are now the South Bay Lakers and play in the rebranded NBA G League.
Big3 play begins on June 22.
