Waterbury native Ta’Quan Zimmerman named NBLC Sixth Man of the Year

Zimmerman (Halifax Hurricanes)

The sixth man is an important cog in any basketball team.
He is the first player off the bench. Often, that player is a sparkplug for his team, brought in to provide an instant burst of energy and offensive punch.
The Halifax Hurricanes have the best Sixth Man in the National Basketball League of Canada. His name is Ta’Quan Zimmerman, and the Waterbury native turned a strong season into an award-winning one.
Zimmerman was named the NBLC’s Sixth Man of the Year on Friday. The former Holy Cross High School and Marianapolis Prep standout is the second player in NBLC history to record 100 3-pointers, 100 rebounds and 100 assists off of the bench.
Zimmerman is Halifax’s third-leading scorer at 12.6 points per game. He has 125 assists and 114 made 3-pointers at a solid 41.1 percent. Zimmerman is shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 88.3 percent at the free throw line.
Halifax is down 1-0 in its NBLC Atlantic Division semifinal series against the Island Storm after a 108-102 loss on Friday night at home. Game 2 is Sunday at home at 2 p.m.
